First Step Complete

Sunday afternoon Daniel and I took the frame to Blue Line Bike Lab on White Oak to begin the bike build. I wasn’t sure what to expect and ended up getting them to install the bottom bracket, crankset, pedals and pedal strap.

I bought the standard sealed-cartridge Shimano bottom bracket and had an Origin8 TrackStar 46 tooth-170mm-1/8in crankset attached to it. I looked at the crankset in silver, red and black and ended up going with black.

Daniel found these Redline platform pedals for $20 amongst all the other track style pedals. He recommended these because they gave you more surface to push or stand on and because they are all metal. For the price they seemed like a really good deal.

Finally, I bought a set of FeetBelt pedal straps – one for me and one for Dan. FeetBelts are made from recycled car seat belts and seem pretty much indestructible.

While I was bummed I couldn’t afford to build the entire bike at Blue Line I have since ordered a wheelset with tires and tubes, chain, front brake and lock online and should be good to go later this week.
